At first glance, this doesn’t look like anything very much, just a big red wall, a door, and some bicycles, but look again.
I took this in Beijing during the summer, not too far from the Forbidden City. There are no lanterns, no not serpent walls, and most certainly no fairy lights but this is probably the most Beijing-Chinese scene that you can imagine without being inside a costume drama.
