Since their inception, one common component of Green Dam Girl images has been the inclusion of a rabbit, or at least something alluding to a rabbit.
Why a rabbit? You may ask. Well, the answer is simple. In their infinite wisdom those behind Green Dam: Youth Escort chose to include a rabbit as the program's mascot. Thus it is only fitting that Green Dam Girl: As the personification of Internet censorship, should have something rabbity about their person.
In some cases Green Dam girl is depicted holding a rabbit, or wearing rabbit ears. In other cases rabbits are positioned somewhere in the picture.
On this subject ACB did some thinking and found that there were two options. Either come up with something original, or come up with something cliché. ACB pondered this for a while and came up with a number of good ideas, but finally came up against a rather important a snag. ACB can't draw rabbits.
It's strange to relate, but while ACB can predict the moves of world governments, can plant a 360 jump kick on the face an opponent twice their size without breaking a sweat, and can even correctly place an English language comma on the second or third try, ACB just cannot draw rabbits.
Thus, after several false starts, and a lot of faffing around (ACB has been assured that “faffing” really is a word, and that it is not as obscene as it sounds), ACB put all other considerations to one side and set out to acquire a suitable rabbit.
Thus was born the great rabbit quest of 2009.
Naturally, ACB turned to 3D again. No matter how good, a 2D rabbit would need to be re scaled, repositions, and generally re drawn to fit in with ACB's existing work. Which would have resulted in a lot of wasted times and quite possibly a poor end product.
Fortunately, it wasn't long before ACB became acquainted - in a round about way with - the Finish 3D designed Mia Koobas and their charmingly named “BigB*tt Bunny” (OK, so this isn't exactly want Koobas named it, but it's as close as ACB will allow on this blog).
Some of you may know Koobas as the person behind the delightful “Mr. Dungeon construction Kit” and sundry other products of a similar nature (some of which involve leather and spikes). However, there was an instant connection between ACB and the bunny (Which may or may not have something to do with the fact that said rabbit was a free stock model), and everything was settled.
After a few tweaks for color and a few morphs for style and posture, ACB had a workable rabbit. Now, what to do with it.
ACB considered various possibilities regarding rabbits wielding everything from clipboards to semi automatic weapons. There was even a brief moment of madness involving a stunning 3D render of a rabbit attempting to do something rather personally to somebody with a carrot (For now, the image is only going to be available on ACB's Premium Rate Japanese service. Lonely Japanese businessmen tend to complain less, and pay more, when it comes to unnatural acts involving rabbits).
Although clearly adorable, a rabbit with a hand gun wasn't quite right for Project Green Dam
This proved to be more promising, and the clipboard could be used to display a message (most likely some variation on 不) but it still wasn't quite right. Regular readers should be glad that BBB is only thinking about eating this particular carrot. The last one almost went somewhere far less sanitary (Which Japanese businessmen can see for the low low monthly subscription of $5.99).
Since ACB's Green Dam girl already had both of their hand's full and can't hold a rabbit, like in some of the other images by other people, ACB could either use BBB as a free standing prop, or as a character in it's own right. But what to do with it?
In the End ACB decided to forget clever and to just go with cute. Thus a Bag full of bunnies was decided upon, and was set up in 3D and before being rendered into 2D to match the rest of the Green Dam girl poster.
Bunnies in a bag
Credit is also due to New England 3D designer RJ Cain who provided the 3D paper bag. The text was added on as a MAT, it reads Green Dam: Youth Escort. ACB was originally going to use a Western style backpack school bag, but the effect didn't come across so well, and reshaping the bag to look right with BBB was taking too much time (The top of the bag was cutting the ears off of the rabbit).
